About the practice

About Accounting Services offers a complete range of accounting services. Individual and business tax returns, bookkeeping in the software you already use, self managed super funds, not-for-profit entities, business advisory and business structure set-up. Our Business Package is built around the BAS cycle, with quarterly reviews timed to your activity statements.

We aim to work with clients to create awareness of the various quantitative relationships in their accounts and use these to help build Sustainable Business Practices. We can advise on individual software needs and how best to service your unique business requirements. Accounting systems can be effectively established from the outset.

Our firm prides itself on the personal service we provide to our clients and our partners’ accountancy/taxation expertise. About Accounting Services distributes a monthly practice newsletter providing accountancy and taxation tips eleven times a year. We believe this keeps our clients abreast of the latest changes occurring in taxation and accountancy fields and how they may affect them.

We look forward to working with you to build a sustainable Business.

The Business Package

Four reviews a year, timed to your activity statements, each with a conversation about where you stand.

The software you already use

MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero, Sage 1 and other major packages. We fit around you.

Eleven newsletters a year

Accountancy and taxation tips, so changes reach you before they cost you.

What we do

Eight services, one practice. Everything below is handled in-house by the two people whose names are on the door.

Individual and sole trader tax returns

Individual returns and sole trader returns, prepared and lodged. Bring the records of any work-related deductions you’re claiming and we’ll work through them with you.

Business tax returns

Partnerships, sole traders, companies and trusts. Prepared, checked and lodged on your business’s cycle rather than in a rush at the end of it.

Bookkeeping and accounting

In the software of your choice, including MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero, Sage 1 and other major packages. We maintain it monthly or quarterly to produce timely reports for periodic review.

GST and Business Activity Statements (BAS)

We structure our services conveniently around the BAS cycle, e.g. monthly, quarterly etc., while coordinating receipt of the primary source documents promptly to avoid period-end delays and bottlenecks.

Self managed super funds

SMSF returns prepared and lodged, with the reporting kept current through the year instead of reconstructed at the end of it.

Not-for-profit entities

Returns, reporting and compliance for not-for-profit organisations, on the same quarterly footing as our business clients.

Business advisory

Our business services focus on understanding your business in order to develop an approach most suited to your needs and maintain regular contact for the best outcomes.

Business structure set-up

We assist our new clients in establishing the reporting structure of choice e.g. sole trader, company etc. and make all necessary registrations before the commencement of business operations.

We prepare returns for

Individuals & sole traders

Partnerships

Trusts

Companies

SMSF

Not-for-profit organisations

Business Activity Statements

Your year, quarter by quarter

We run to the BAS cycle and collect source documents early, so nothing piles up at the end.

Q1JUL–SEPQ2OCT–DECQ3JAN–MARQ4APR–JUNTHE YEARJUL → JUN
You are here: Q1, September

Each quarter closes, we lodge, and the next opens.

Q1

Jul – Sep

Quarterly BAS · due 28 October

Individual returns open from 1 July

Individual and business returns, and the first BAS of the new year.

Q2

Oct – Dec

Quarterly BAS · due 28 February

Company, trust and SMSF returns. Bookkeeping reconciled monthly or quarterly.

Q3

Jan – Mar

Quarterly BAS · due 28 April

The quiet quarter, and the useful one. Reporting reviewed, structures checked, next year planned before it arrives.

Q4

Apr – Jun

Quarterly BAS · due 28 July

Year-end 30 June

Year-end position confirmed early, so 30 June is a date rather than an event.

These are the ATO’s standard dates for businesses reporting GST quarterly. Lodging online can earn an extra two weeks, and lodging through us can earn more time again. Quarter 2 is the exception, because 28 February already includes a one-month extension. Your own dates vary with your circumstances, and we’ll confirm them in writing. Never guess from a website, ours included.

Questions we get asked

If yours isn’t here, ring us. You’ll get one of the two of us, not a queue.

Bring the records of any work-related deductions you’re claiming, along with photo ID. If you’re not sure what counts, bring it anyway and we’ll sort it out with you.

Every situation is different, so we quote on enquiry. Ring the office and we’ll tell you what it will cost.

Usually 10 to 14 business days from lodgment. Our fee can come out of the refund itself, so there is nothing to pay up front.

No problem at all. We’ve brought clients up to date who hadn’t lodged in more than fifteen years. However far behind you are, it is fixable, and the sooner you start the less it costs you.

Your first appointment needs to be in person, because we are required to verify your identity face to face. That is an ATO requirement rather than ours. After that, most of it can be handled by phone and email.

Yes. Eric is a Registered Tax Agent, so we deal with the ATO directly on your behalf, including lodgments and any queries they raise.

We review your books every quarter, timed to your activity statements, so the year’s work is done four times over rather than all at once in June. It is built for small to medium businesses who would rather know where they stand all year than find out in June.

No. We work in MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero, Sage 1 and other major packages, and we’ll advise on what suits your business rather than what suits ours. If you’re starting from nothing, we can set the system up from the outset.

Individuals and sole traders, partnerships, trusts, companies, self managed super funds and not-for-profit entities, plus Business Activity Statements on your BAS cycle.

Eric Okeno or Jacquii Wallace, and both are here. Eric is the Registered Tax Agent and Jacquii prepares returns under his registration. Eric founded the practice in Morisset in 2000.

Eleven a year
